How to get started
Well you want to get into racing Geminis or wish to be involved in a Gemini race team
We hold regular meetings with all the Gemini drivers & crew so drop me a line & I can let you know about the next upcoming meeting, or you can come meet with the drivers & crew at the track where ever there is a race meeting including QGRA cars.
What does it cost?
To race in the Queensland Gemini Racing Association you will need the following
Medical by a CAMS approved doctor approx $120
CAMS licence minumum PC $385 including Compulsory CAMS Manual
Protective gear, race suit, gloves, boots, sock & Helmet Approx Value $1000.00 (Beware of 2nd hand suits & helmets as they have an expiry date)
Car, lease from $1500 per race meeting including Practice (bear in mind pit crew, towing & tyres may be extra)
Car, buy from $4,500 - $10,000.. Price will depend on condition of car & what is supplied with it. Pay particular attention to motor as an A grade rebuild inc Dyno time will cost $6000 . Also take into account suspension etc. & whether it is a ready to go race car.
Costs associated with racing Geminis are as follow
Race Fees $275 Qld Raceway, (Morgan Park is usually cheaper)
Friday Practice $120 full day Qld Raceway
Fuel approx $100 per race meeting
Tyres, approx 8 tyres per year @ $205 each
Dorian Timer $350
Fire Extinguisher from $30.00 (Must be date stamped & in date)
Safety Belts, from $120 (I prefer 3" 6 point Harness for safety, which cost from $220)
You may need to pay for other items, depending on the car & what comes with it. Also allow for brake rotors & pads, plus servicing of the car after each race meeting.
